Vienna
The credo 'hard work pays off' holds more truth than ever with Belgian youngsters Vienna. A year after releasing their debut-EP entitled Arrows -a collection of powerpop songs that landed them nationwide attention and a spot on plenty of Belgium's stages- Vienna is back with their debut full length album: "One Heart At A Time""We're super thrilled about the album" says Gayle, the band's vocalist. "After gaining some momentum with Arrows and our previous single Eenie Meenie, we decided to go all out". The momentum Gayle mentioned started to build over the spring/summer of 2010 after releasing Arrows. The band played tons of shows all over Belgium and shared stages with many international acts. When the dust from the summer run settled down, the band went straight into the studio to record a cover of Justin Bieber's Eenie Meenie, releasing it and solidifying their position as hot new act. The song got nationwide attention and was voted in TMF's "dag top 5" for 5 consecutive weeks, 2 weeks on number 1. All this paid off for Vienna as they got noticed by Bart Becks (skynet, belgacom tv) and Maurice Engelen (praga khan, lords of acid) who went on to sign the band to their new SonicAngel label. Instead of relying on money by a big giant label, the band and the label took to the fans to gather the necessary funds for a record. In a little under a month with hardly any promotion made, the band collected all the necessary funds and started to work on their debut album. In the meanwhile, the band kept on playing every possible show. They won a "Best Song" award at the Exposure Music Awards, which will allow them to play a few shows in London soon. They played the suikerrock festival and many others. Not type of band to sit still, they paid a visit to Outhouse Studios in Reading, UK to record material for their debut with John Mitchell and Ben Humphreys. Both seasoned vets in the trade having worked with You Me At Six, Bullet For My Valentine and Enter Shikari, to name a few, Vienna knew this was a good choice. "The experience and the change of environment did so much for us", says Gayle. "The mood was very relaxed so we could give it our best. We were a little nervous at first, but the support and guidance we got allowed us to play and make the music we wanted to make", she continues. The band released their first single of the album called "Lonely Shore" in september 2011, leading to more highlights: supporting Avril Lavigne in a sold out Vorst-Nationaal was one of them. The band went back to the studio in October/November to finish work on their debut. One Heart At A Time is a classic example of solid songwriting complimented by a full band to give it the necessary fire and drive. Gayle's vocals and lyrics grab you by the throat and the band just fortifies that feeling, you just can't let go. They are soft and gentle when they need to be, loud and powerful when they choose to be, full of emotion and energy and written in the key of life. So what is "One Heart At A Time" about? Bas, Bassplayer was kind enough to explain: "So many bands are out there one day and gone the next. We don't want to be just that, we want to be more than that. I think that a lot of people are going to be surprised after hearing One Heart At A Time. They probably expected something different after Eenie Meenie, and we're going to take those preconceptions and take it somewhere else." He continues: "We're going to work hard, play more shows, make more music and just be there. We're going to take it one stap at a time, on step at a time. Because building lasting relationships with fans old and new alike is what we want to do: One Heart At A Time.""We're super thrilled about this song" says Gayle, the band's vocalist.
